Meet Michelle – new jewelry designer at Eureka Crystal Beads

Hello Beaders!

DSC00014

I’d like to introduce myself, my name is Michelle Whitman and I am the new Head Designer at Eureka Crystal Beads. I’ve been working in the Jewelry Industry for over 30 years making product for Nationally known large boutique store chains. I guess you could say that I have a real passion for the craft of jewelry making. But my love affair for Toho, Czech glass and Swarovski Crystal started when I was pregnant and my doctor took me out of work because I was having difficulties. Naturally I gravitated to the local bead store to keep myself occupied. There I started attending the classes and developed skills and techniques that I’ll be sharing with you in future blogs and posts. Today I see so many new options for beading creations like Ava Beads, 3-hole Cali Beads and Tinos par Puca Czech Glass Beads. So stay tuned and be sure to like us on Facebook, follow us on Instagram or subscribe to our YouTube channel and we’ll have a great time creating treasure for ourselves and our loved ones.

You will  “bead your heart out”!

Swarovski Inovations Spring/Summer 2017 – The Balance of Nature

At the beginning of this year, Swarovski launched their new line of crystal colors and shapes. The main theme of this year’s release was “THE BALANCE OF NATURE”. The idea came from recognizing the fact that over the past 15 years we have witnessed radical changes in the way we meet, interact, live and even age. The influx of new technology has steadily become overwhelming and made us want to step back, to pause and seek fulfillment, satisfaction  and meaning in our busy daily lives. Well-being has become the global mantra. Our desire to reconnect with unspoiled nature, with mind, body and soul is creating a huge demand for travel to off the beaten track destinations, calming practices of meditation and yoga.

With this year’s designs, Swarovski is focusing on well-being, allowing us to reconnect with our inner selves through the eternal elements of Air, Earth, Water and Fire.

A breath of fresh air, remains a potent symbol of calm for all those wishing to retreat from the pressure of daily life. The Crystal Pearlescent White Pearl, is a new stunning Swarovski effect in the Crystal Pearl.

airTimeless romantic design embraces the natural colors of planet Earth. Graphite is a new color representing this trend, a strong, bluish grey-black which is both elegant and mysterious. It forms the perfect gradient transition between Crystal Silver Night and Jet.

fireVibrant, eye-catching colors are the mainstay of the over-the-top glamour favored equally by celebrities. The new color, Yellow Opal is finding its origins in the gemstone Citrine. Yellow Opal is a very happy color. Its bright yellow hue has been give a matte, opalescent finish giving it a genuine gemstone appeal.

Our favorite is Yellow Opal AB2X available now in 3 and 4 mm Swarovski Bicones at www.eurekacrystalbeads.com. Get it now and see for yourself how truly stunning this color is.

Chrysanthemum Bracelet with 2-hole Crescents, 2-hole Lentils and 6 mm Czech Druk Beads brightens our cold winter days

Winter has finally arrived in New England. Temperature has dipped overnight by 15 degrees and ground is covered with a layer of fresh snow. Those of you who live in the South may think that it is a real struggle to make it through the cold winter months here, but to tell you the truth at Eureka Crystal Beads we don’t get affected by the weather changes too much. We always have beading projects to do and these keep our spirits up and keep us warm on the inside. Just recently we have featured on our website a fabulous free beading project by Nichole Starman called Chrysanthemum Bracelet.

Chrisanthemum-Free-Pattern

Chrysanthemum Bracelet is made of individual beaded flowers which are joined together to form a bracelet. You can easily use leftover beads for this project, but if you don’t have them you can purchase TWO HOLE CRESCENTS, TWO HOLE LENTILS & 6 mm DRUK BEADS from Eureka at a discount (till tomorrow).

We like this project because it is quite inexpensive, lets you use beads which you already may have in your stash and gives you a lot of freedom with choosing colors.  You can make flowers in any color combinations and you can use clasp of your choice.

Get a free pattern, get beads on sale, get free shipping (all orders $35+), get to work and be thankful for this great hobby which keeps us all happy and young.

CzechMates are very popular but one-hole Czech Glass Beads are standing their ground

Seed-Beads-1-hole

Beading and the beading industry have been revolutionized by the introduction of two-hole and four-hole beads.  Most of us use them all the time and we continuously find new applications for them. Beading has become fascinating, challenging and more fun than ever. Using the same selection of  CzechMates, two beaders may arrive at designs so different that no-one will believe that they used the same components. Can you believe that  two years ago most of us didn’t even imagine two-hole beads? For some people adding a second hole to a bead was a blasphemy or a pure nonsense.

And here we are in the fall of 2015 not being able to survive without CzechMates and treating them like they were here since the beginning of time. At Eureka Crystal Beads we carry an amazing selection of CzechMates and other two-hole beads. Superduos and their younger and smaller sisters MiniDuos are by far the most popular of all CzechMates, but other shapes like 2-hole Czech Glass Lentils, 2-hole Czech Glass Daggers, Kheops Puca, 2-hole Bars, 2-hole Triangles are not far behind. Despite the fact that two-hole beads have become a must have for every beader’s stash, one-hole beads are standing their ground.

Large hole O-Beads which are in fact large hole flat discs seem very plain and simple at first glance, but some artists already used them in absolutely gorgeous designs. My favorite O-Bead bracelet was featured in Beadwork Magazine.

New Czech glass Dagger seed beads look great as small drops and are a natural fit for Kumihimo. Kumihimo lovers embraced them and seem not to ever have enough of them.

SQ-Cat-MelonRizzoCzech glass Rizo beads are similar to Mini Daggers but are not tapered like the latter but have rounded ends and are fatter, looking like a grain of rice. Matubo and peanut shaped Farfalle are still very popular and some beaders who like to try different things tend to like more obscure seed beads like glass Pillow Beads, and Pinch Beads.

Eureka Crystal beads are candy to your eyes. We carry only the best quality beads in colors and finishes which will make your projects stand out. Go ahead and try a bead shape you’ve never worked with before and see where your imagination takes you!

Starting next month you will be getting a new free pattern with each order. It will be a cool  bracelet. You’ll love it!

And now going back to our sale. You all use firepolish beads, but do you know where the name comes from?

Here are some interesting facts:

FIREPOLISH BEADS are pressed out of lead free, colored glass rods, processed in large drum-shaped, semi-automatic grinding machines to eliminate lumps, or irregularities and  placed in industrial ovens for firepolishing, during which their surface is slightly melted to make them look shiny and feel smooth. This ages-old, traditional firepolishing process transforms ordinary glass beads into sparkly, vintage looking beads sought after by all beaders.

Firepolish Gemstone Doughnuts are perfect for quick and easy but attractive projects. Make an earring featured below from discontinued colors (still in stock).

This summer there is a move to softer, pastel colors in jewelry and accessories.

This season there is a move toward the cooler and softer side of the color spectrum. An eclectic ethereal mix of understated brights, pale pastels and nature-like neutrals take center stage as designers draw from daydreams of simpler times. Remembrances of retro delights, folkloric and floral art and magical words of tropical landscapes restore a sense of well-being as we head into warmer months.

Marie Antoinette Earrings

These elegant Swarovski Crystal earrings were designed by Val Hirata and were inspired by the look and style of Marie Antoinette, the queen of France. Some of  the components you may already have in your bead stash. For the ones you still need to get visit Eureka Crystal Beads’ free beading projects page. You may download free instructions of  Marie Antoinette Earrings from the project’s page.

Described by many as “likeable and honest” princess,  Marie-Antoinette, was married to the future king of France Louis XVI when she was just 15 years old. The future king was only 16.

The young couple soon came to symbolize all of the excesses of the reviled French monarchy, and Marie Antoinette herself became the target of a great deal of vicious gossip. To this day she remains one of the most misunderstood and fascinating figures of the history of Versailles.

As a queen she was marginalized and given very few official duties. She dedicated herself to the organisation of the court’s entertainments throwing lavish parties, socializing and indulging her extravagant tastes. She liked to wear stately dresses and fashionable jewelry.

The queen progressively attracted the scorn of public opinion up to her tragic death during the French Revolution.
