Dancing Duo Bracelets

Hi Everyone! We’ve been promising you this tutorial and here it is! These bracelets are easy to make and fun to wear. The bracelets featured here consist of Super Duos but you can use any Czech glass bead or bead of your choice. Keep in mind that some beads are more difficult to work with. However, you will be extremely pleased with the end result! Happy Beading!

Supplies needed: 11° SB (seed bead)

SD(super duo)

6 lb Fireline size

size 11 or 12 beading needle

*check Super Duos to make sure both holes are open before beginning*

  1. To help learn the stitch; at the beginning of each row, I pull out 3 sead beads and 3 Super Duos. Once all 3 SB and 3 SD are used, you will know it’s the end of your row. The first two rows are difficult but after that it gets much easier. Hang in there!

DSC00058

2. Begin by stringing a stop bead leaving an 8″ tail. Then string an 11° SB, SD, 11° SB, SD, 11° SB, SD. Slide down to the stop bead.

step8

3. Beginning row 2: Go through the empty hole of the SD that is closest to your needle.

step9

4a. Pick up a SB and SD and pass through the next SB of row 1. Pull to tighten.

step10

4b. Pass through the empty hole of the next SD and pull thread to tighten. I usually anchor row 1 beads by pressing against the mat with my finger while I pull to keep in proper order. This is the most difficult part of the whole bracelet; making sure your beads are in the right order. If your beads come off the mat, it’s easy to lose your place.

step11

5. Pick up a new SB and SD

step12

and go into the next set of beads in row 1. Starting with a seed bead

step13

And continuing through the empty hole of the next SD.

DSC00068

6. Pick-up another SB and SD

step14

and go through the SB next to the stop bead (silver bead at the end).

step15

Row 2 is complete. This is what row 1 and 2 look like. The hardest part is over. Good Job!

step16

7. You are starting the 3rd row. You will repeat row 3 for the duration of the bracelet.      Go through the empty hole of the last SD used. Set out 3 SB and 3 SD.

At the beginning of the row go through the empty hole of the SD of the previous row.

step18

7b. Pick up a SB and SD,  go through the next SB and SD of the previous row.DSC00078

7c. Pick-up a SB and SD. Go through the next SB and the empty hole of the next SD in the previous row.

step19

7d. Pick-up SB and SD. Go through the last SB of the previous row. Pull to tighten. Row 3 is complete. Repeat this row until you achieve the desired length of the bracelet. Allow room for the clasp.

DSC00083

10. Repeat row 3! Repeat! Repeat! Repeat! It get’s easier with each row. The hard part is over! The results are well worth it!

step20

In the beginning try Super Duos or Two hole lentils. You will be happy with the results. You can change the width of the row by adding an extra set beads in row 1. Please let us know if you have any feedback. Kits will be available soon. Send us pictures of your bracelet or submit your finished work to be featured on our website.

New Czech PRONG Beads and new CzechMates: 3-hole BEAM beads & 2-hole CABOCHON beads

January is a busy month for beading. We are all trying to get ready for the next season, Tucson show starts at the end of the month and, as almost every year at this time, we are anxiously waiting for the launch of the new glass beads from the Czech Republic. It seems like there is no end to the ingenuity of the Czech bead-masters. This year we’ll soon be able to play with CzechMates 3-hole Beam Beads, CzechMates 2-hole Cabochons and Prong Beads.

hp-new-patterns

CzechMates 3-hole Beams look like stretched 2-hole Bars with a third hole added in the middle. 3-hole beams are 10×3 mm in size. They can be used as spacers or with other beads as linking components . Free patterns for all three shapes are already available on our site, so please check out free patterns.

CzechMates 2-hole Cabochons are flat at the bottom and have a domed top. These beads were first offered for a pre-sale as 6mm Cabochons and then while we were all waiting for the delivery Czech manufacturer reclassified them as 7mm. Their actual size is 6.5mm so be careful not to confuse them with 2-hole Cabochons which look identical but are smaller and measure exactly 6mm. The size difference when you compare both Cabochons is quite dramatic.

Prong Beads look like a shark’s tooth and measure 6×3 mm. They have only one hole and can be used individually as small drops or in bead-weaving patterns.

All three new Czech bead shapes are available now in a large assortment of colors on Eureka Crystal Beads website.

Chrysanthemum Bracelet with 2-hole Crescents, 2-hole Lentils and 6 mm Czech Druk Beads brightens our cold winter days

Winter has finally arrived in New England. Temperature has dipped overnight by 15 degrees and ground is covered with a layer of fresh snow. Those of you who live in the South may think that it is a real struggle to make it through the cold winter months here, but to tell you the truth at Eureka Crystal Beads we don’t get affected by the weather changes too much. We always have beading projects to do and these keep our spirits up and keep us warm on the inside. Just recently we have featured on our website a fabulous free beading project by Nichole Starman called Chrysanthemum Bracelet.

Chrisanthemum-Free-Pattern

Chrysanthemum Bracelet is made of individual beaded flowers which are joined together to form a bracelet. You can easily use leftover beads for this project, but if you don’t have them you can purchase TWO HOLE CRESCENTS, TWO HOLE LENTILS & 6 mm DRUK BEADS from Eureka at a discount (till tomorrow).

CzechMates, 2-hole Czech Glass Beads opening the most recent chapter in Bohemian glass making history…

I have been beading for a while and more I bead more I am getting hooked on this absolutely amazing hobby. I love Czech Glass Beads, all CzechMates, SuperDuos,  2-hole Silky and new 2-Hole Honeycomb beads. Recently I have made Honeycomb Beezzzz Bracelet, designed by Akke Jonkhof. I made it in several colors and  I absolutely love these bracelets. They are very easy to make and very comfortable to wear, and of course make a great gift.

A free pattern is available for a download at Eureka Crystal Beads.

In between my beading I started reading about the history of glass making in the Czech Republic, I was fascinated, not only does it explain the common looks, colors and finishes of the Czech beads that we know and love, but how they came to be.

Czech glass, also known as Bohemian glass or Bohemian crystal, is a decorative glass made in Bohemia and Silesia as far back as the early Bronze Age.

There, in early middle ages, Bohemian glass workers discovered that combining the naturally occurring potash (potassium carbonate) with chalk created a very clear, colorless glass that was of much better quality than the glass being made in Venice, another traditional glass-making center.

During a period of industrial revolution, Bohemia became specialized in the creation of Pressed Glass and Firepolish beads. Pressed Glass beads are made by pressing molten glass into a ready mold, leading to the vast variety of shapes available. The most popular are Czech Glass Leaves, Rose Petals, Czech Glass Bell & Trumpet Flowers.

Czech glass Firepolish beads on sale are made from round pressed beads (druks) and then have facets cut into them by a grinding wheel, they are then heated in special ovens in order to smooth out edges, giving them distinctive brilliance and shine. Get them from Eureka Crystal Beads. Shipping is fast and free – and now you can get them in bulk at a very low, wholesale price.

fa-firepolish

Firepolish beads have been the most popular beads for a long time. They are still popular and Eurekas’ best sellers. Recently however the entire beading industry has been dominated by a new development – Czech beads with multiple holes. There is a large number of shapes and colors available in Czech Glass 2-hole Beads, and  two styles in 4-hole beads called QuadraLentils and QuadraTiles.

Those of you who have ever placed an order with us know that we include (in each order) a free pattern of the month. September pattern is called Bellflower Earrings, by a TrendSetter Cindy Holsclaw.

BELLFLOWER EARRINGS

Starting next month you will be getting a new free pattern with each order. It will be a cool  bracelet. You’ll love it!

And now going back to our sale. You all use firepolish beads, but do you know where the name comes from?

Here are some interesting facts:

FIREPOLISH BEADS are pressed out of lead free, colored glass rods, processed in large drum-shaped, semi-automatic grinding machines to eliminate lumps, or irregularities and  placed in industrial ovens for firepolishing, during which their surface is slightly melted to make them look shiny and feel smooth. This ages-old, traditional firepolishing process transforms ordinary glass beads into sparkly, vintage looking beads sought after by all beaders.

Firepolish Gemstone Doughnuts are perfect for quick and easy but attractive projects. Make an earring featured below from discontinued colors (still in stock).
